Last week, April 20-24, Prairie View A&M University celebrated the 125th anniversary of the passage of the Morrill Act.  The act, passed in 1890, helped to create the historically black land grant universities in the former Confederate States.  Although Prairie View A&M University actually predates the Morrill Act by some 14 years, it is still an important milestone and the PVAMU Cooperative Extension Program celebrated it by holding  our spring conference on campus.  I was in attendance all last week, and I brought a camera along to help document the event.

The East Austin Garden Fair was another success this year thanks to the efforts of agents and volunteers, and the support of the community.  We had to do things a little differently this year due to the rainy weather.  The event was held inside the Zaragoza Rec Center rather than out in the park.  We also had some ice cream donated by Amy's Ice Cream which was a nice treat.  I was working with the Master Gardener volunteers at a bean bag toss booth for the kids that also taught them about the MyPlate food groups.  Members of Bethany 4-H also joined us for a photography workshop.  They took their own photos which I will post later, but right now I would like to share the photos I took at the event:

March 30, 2015

Today was a busy day for Galindo 4-H.  First, they put together their storyboard images using the photos they took back on March 3rd.  Then they used the cameras to take pictures of the terrariums inside the school and the chickens outside the school.  Then, while outside for recess time, we had a surprise visit from an individual who had just tracked down a rescue cat that had escaped.  He had the kitty inside his backpack and let Galindo 4-H take photos of the cute little thing.  Here are the photos and the storyboards:

It was a nice day for Galindo 4-H so we took advantage of the weather and went outside to capture some photos.  Here are some of the highlights:

Galindo 4-H continued today with a photography lesson that included how to create storyboards, which is the process of combining three photos into a single image that tells a story accompanied by a minimal amount of text.  The results from their storyboards will be shown later, but they had a lot of time with the cameras today and managed to capture some other quality photos while they were at it.  The results speak for themselves:
