I am pleased to announce the next fundraiser activity for the Bethany Christian Church DOC 4-H club which will take place at Joe's Crab Shack located at 600 East Riverside Dr. in Austin, TX.  The event will take place on Tuesday, August 12th from 7 PM to 9 PM.  We will have our own room reserved so mention to the host/hostess that you are there for the 4-H fundraiser!  10% of your total bill for food and drinks, but not including gratuity and tax will go to the 4-H Club.  You will need to present a copy of the flyer, so please print out and bring if you can.  If you forget the flyer or can't print it out, that's alright, since I will bring some extra copies with me.  I hope to see you out for a fun night to help raise funds for Bethany Christian Church DOC 4-H!  Please feel free to share this flyer with anyone you think may be interested.

On this day, Travis County Agrilife Extension and Cooperative Extension staff worked together on the "It's Peachy" Food Project workshop in Fredericksburg.  4-H Agent Cory Talley organized the trip and Crystal Wiltz and myself helped out.  We visited a peach farm and bought some peaches which were used to make various items such as peach jelly and cookies.  I took several pictures of the event which I would like to share with you.  Thanks to the Gillespie County AgriLife Extension office for letting us use their facilities for food preparation.

The farmer explains how they grow and harvest the peaches.
He shows the kids some peaches.
4-H'ers collect peaches to take back to the factory.
Just another day at the peach factory!
4-H'ers watch their peaches come down the line.

"It's the pits" prepping all these peaches and cleaning up!
Now it's time to make the jelly!
 Helping to stir the jelly.
Now let's make some homemade peach cookies.
Yum!  All that hard work pays off deliciously.

Today we held our monthly 4-H Club meeting at Bethany Christian Church DOC 4-H, a week later than usual due to the busy summer schedules of our 4-H families!  Congratulations to Makalah Adams on being elected to the position of club president for the 2014-2015 4-H year.  Outgoing club president Emmanuel Effiong passed the gavel to her to symbolically transfer the authority of the position.  Next month, we will elect our vice president and club secretary.  Makalah also shared her experiences at the 2014 Youth Lab held at Prairie View A&M University last week from July 15th through the 17th, where she won the trophy at the "Teen Idol" talent contest for best solo performance.  In fact, she is showing off the trophy in the group photo below!
